Additional information
Why are there so many varieties of honey?
Natural honey comes in a range of flavours, aromas, and colours depending on where it's harvested. Bees collect nectar from flowers within a 1-2 km radius, and the diversity of blooms in each region leads to unique variations in the honey.
When over 50% of the flowers in a bee’s foraging area are of the same kind, the honey is called mono-floral honey. In India, some popular mono-floral varieties include Sidr honey, Jamun honey, Eucalyptus honey, Ajwain honey, Litchi honey, and Mustard honey.
How does Forestroots™ honey avoid industrial processing?
Our honey is made in nature’s factory – the beehive. When honey is harvested at its perfect stage of ripeness, it doesn't require further processing.
We use a separation process to remove visible impurities at the source. Honey is left to rest in a container, and then we remove the top layer, which may contain organic particles like wax, pollen, or leaves. Dust and sand settle at the bottom and are discarded. Once at our facility, the honey is warmed gently (never beyond 45°C) and strained, leaving it pure, raw, and free of visible impurities.
What is mono-floral honey?
Mono-floral honey is produced when the bees gather nectar primarily from one type of flower. If over 50% of the flowers within a bee’s foraging area are the same, the honey takes on the characteristics of that bloom. Examples of mono-floral honey in India include Sidr honey, Jamun honey, Ajwain honey, and Mustard honey.
Does Forestroots™ honey crystallize or solidify?
Yes, because Forestroots™ honey is raw and unprocessed, it naturally crystallizes over time, especially in colder weather or when stored in the refrigerator. But don't worry! You can easily return it to its liquid form by placing the jar in warm water for a few hours.
Why is commercial honey cheaper?
Many commercial honey brands can sell their products at lower prices due to adulteration. Here's why:
- Natural honey varies in taste, color, and aroma depending on the floral source. Commercial brands need large quantities of uniform honey, which is nearly impossible without additives.
- Pure honey tends to crystallize due to its glucose content, which isn’t ideal for long-term retail display. Adulterants like rice syrup don’t crystallize.
- Large quantities of natural honey at a consistent price are hard to achieve due to its scattered production, so commercial brands often turn to blending or dilution
